Kiva
We let you loan to the working poor.
Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.
We partner with organizations all over the world
Kiva partners with existing microfinance institutions. In doing so, we gain access to outstanding entrepreneurs from impoverished communities world-wide. Our partners are experts in choosing qualified borrowers. That said, they are usually short on funds. Through Kiva.org, our partners upload their borrower profiles directly to the site so you can lend to them.
We show you where your money goes
Kiva provides a data-rich, transparent lending platform for the poor. We are constantly working to make the system more transparent to show how money flows throughout the entire cycle.
We facilitate connections
Kiva is using the power of the internet to facilitate one-to-one connections that were previously prohibitively expensive. Child sponsorship has always been a high overhead business. Kiva creates a similar interpersonal connection at much lower costs due to the instant, inexpensive nature of internet delivery. The individuals featured on our website are real people who need a loan and are waiting for socially-minded individuals like you to lend them money.
Reef Fest

Reef Fest is an official project of the NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program, the International Year of the Reef during 2008, the National Coral Reef Institute, the Whitewater-to-Bluewater organization, and Guy Harvey, Inc., to raise awareness of the need to conserve and protect coral reefs throughout the world.
Donations gathered at Reef Fest (or collaborative) events go to the Reef Fest Fund, administered by a Congressionally chartered, and one of the largest 501(c)3 non-profit conservation grantmaking organizations in the world, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). During the donation upload process, the donor may choose which coral reef area they wish to support. All donors to this non-profit venture receive a special certificate from NFWF immediately upon upload via the Web site for submission with their tax return to the Internal Revenue Service.
After the end of 2008, a special Reef Fest Fund Proposal Review Committee, consisting of some of the world's most respected coral reef scientists and conservationists, will be convened. A Request for Proposals (RFP) will be sent out through many channels, including Coral-List (about 4,500 subscribers), with special emphasis placed for regional research where large donations may have been received in the donation process (see above). Prospective coral researchers and conservationists will compete for Reef Fest funds through a competitive proposal process. Proposals for specific regions that are identified in the RFP will receive the highest priority of review.
Proposal awardees will be requested to submit periodic progress reports, as well as a final report, and hopefully will contribute quality publications to the public and/or for scientific journals.
